"The funds raised from the Tunbridge Wells Legal Walk are invaluable to the service we provide at Citizens Advice Tunbridge Wells & District. Without funding such as this, we would not be able to continue to provide a much needed service to the residents of Tunbridge Wells.
The funding raised this year will help us to expand and develop our outreach services even further which will enable us to widen access to our service thus making it easier for more of our residents to reach us.
We would like to thank Law 365, the London Legal Support Trust and everybody for the incredible job they did last year."
- Jennifer Jadia, CEO, Citizens Advice Tunbridge Wells
What is the London Legal Support Trust?
London Legal Support Trust (LLST) offers support to a wide range of not-for-profit advice and legal services, providing access to frontline free legal advice charities. There are lots of ways you can show your support to ensure that everyone has fair access to justice.
There is a legal aid crisis. Between 2005 and 2018, 56% of all legal aid providers were lost, and the proportion of not-for-profit providers fell by a staggering 64% over the same period.
Of course, in recent years has been a huge surge in demand for support - particularly regarding benefits claims, employment issues and family relationships. There have also been more young people needing help. Citizens Advice is currently preparing for a “tsunami of need” -- such as the threat of eviction and unmanageable debt.
How your donations help Citizens Advice Tunbridge Wells & District
Citizens Advice Tunbridge Wells & District is an independent charity, affiliated to but not part of the national Citizens Advice charity. They have to raise every penny they spend.
Law 365 and other local law firms support the agency by walking the Tunbridge Wells Legal Walk and by giving pro bono advice to those who seek their help.
Funding for free, impartial, confidential advice has never been so crucial. Despite moving to a remote service since the start of the pandemic, our volunteers and paid staff have gone out of their way to make sure that people get the advice and support they need, despite often challenging circumstances.
Here is some feedback from Citizens Advice clients:
"[My husband] had his first night's sleep in years last night. I don't know how to thank you enough."
"You are an absolute legend - it feels so good to have someone on my side."
Where your money will go?
To meet the increase in demand, Citizens Advice urgently needs funding to train and mentor new volunteers. All funding raised from the 2022 Walk will be put towards building the advice team.
