The Mindful Business Charter (MBC) provides a framework for organisations who want to promote better workplace mental wellbeing by outlining a code of conduct that helps teams to support each other and their clients in a more mindful and respectful way.

The goal is to create a happier, more resilient workplace, recognising that there will be times when longer working hours are required and that some stress is unavoidable, but that this should be the exception not the norm.

At Law 365 we have created our own mindful ways of working based on these four pillars of the MBC.

Through this framework we support and challenge each other to mindfully put this framework into practice, to ask ourselves what else can we do to be the change we want to see in the workplace.

We are all encouraged to consider these ways of working:

    Openness and respect

    • Discuss upfront with colleagues, clients and contacts their preferred method of communication and clarify any relevant implications of an individual’s working patterns.
    • Treat internal colleagues and external contacts with the appropriate level of respect and courtesy.
    • Ask for and provide feedback to others on a regular basis.

    Smart meetings and emails

    • Be clear when delegating. Provide enough context, information and purpose around the task.
    • Communicate and be clear on the wider timeline of the work, do not just impose a deadline.
    • Be confident to discuss unrealistic expectations / deadlines.
    • Stay connected.
    • Give recognition and celebrate great work.
    • Regularly ask for, and give, honest feedback to each other.

    Respect rest periods

    • Recognise that everyone needs to switch off, including you.
    • Be respectful of others working hours and flexible working patterns.
    • When sending emails outside of business hours, being clear in the title whether it needs to be read / actioned promptly or considering sending pre-timed emails (so emails are not received late at night and at weekends).
    • Be clear about your working hours, how can you communicate this to colleagues, clients?
    • Own your own boundaries with confidence.
    • Respect other people’s annual leave – e.g. don’t expect them to check emails / take calls. Role model this too.

    Mindful delegation

    • Be clear when delegating. Provide enough context, information and purpose around the task.
    • Communicate and be clear on the wider timeline of the work, do not just impose a deadline.
    • Be confident to discuss unrealistic expectations / deadlines.
    • Stay connected.
    • Give recognition and celebrate great work.
    • Regularly ask for and give honest feedback to each other.

This charter aligns with Kim’s vision for Law 365… to be brave and to do things differently! We don’t want to be like the rest, when we can be the best.
