Law 365 is a specialised commercial and employment law firm under the leadership of the Founder and CEO, Kim Simmonds.
Prior to Law 365, Kim was an M&A Associate at Shearman & Sterling LLP in New York City. She has an LLM in International Business and Trade Law, graduating with distinction from Fordham University School of Law, and an LLB (European) from University of Exeter.
Kim had 3 main goals when she launched Law 365:
1. To make a difference to the way Microsoft Partner businesses work with lawyers
There is no other law firm in the world dedicated to solely to Microsoft Partners, which meant that before Law 365 existed these businesses didn’t have the specialised support they needed. These business owners often found themselves across the table from in-house legal teams on major contracts and they felt out of their depth.
Law 365 redefines the modern law firm by partnering with clients long term on a monthly subscription model (like Netflix) that covers all their legal needs. Subscriptions are different to the traditional law firm retainer model which is still based on time spent on a matter- she bills on outcomes - not how much time it took a lawyer to get a deal across the finish line.
This model gives clients the confidence to plan their finances knowing all their legal needs are covered and never having to worry about an unnerving bill at the end of the day.
Law 365’s Legal-as-a-Service (LaaS) model has been a great success among Microsoft Partners because of its unique combination of specialisation (no one gets the Microsoft world as well as Law 365 which is shown through the countless successful negotiations against other non-specialised lawyers), affordability and client service. Part of its success is owed to the Microsoft Technologies that the firm has embraced to offer real-time legal advice, enhanced communication, and efficient processes.
2. To make the company one of the best places to work
Kim wants work to be more than just a money making exercise. She wants her workplace to be where staff are able to develop themselves, both professionally and personally.
Being a mindful leader is a critical element to her business. Mindfulness and leadership are not skillsets we are taught in school. So, to hone these skills, Kim started an “Inner MBA” course at New York University with other mindful CEOs to learn the elements of great leadership and mindfulness and how to bring that into the workplace.
She applies her lessons from the NYU course to every aspect of the business, but especially the wellbeing practices of the firm such as the daily led meditation which she leads for the team, alongside offering everyone executive coaching and a suite of holistic wellbeing initiatives.
We have an Employee Net Promoter score of 88 = World Class. This score of 88 tells Kim that her employees are happy.
If it all feels a bit zen for a law firm, it’s important to point out that Kim's model works! Last year, while many businesses faltered, Law 365 quadrupled the number of clients on the books – from 11 to over 40 – and increased the team from 3 to 22 (which continues to increase even now).
We have a Client Net Promoter Score of 86 = World Class. If you’re not familiar with NPS, you first need to know that the range of ranking goes from -100 to +100….Many good businesses get a negative score and a ranking above 80 is considered world class.
